Which lorry should a controller send?

The task within this resource is a real-world example of analysis and problem solving that can be used to support a lesson on computational thinking.

It uses the scenario of a controller in a logistics company who schedules all the lorries and drivers to make deliveries during the course of the day. Pupils are given data on all the lorries and their locations. By looking at the data they have to decide which lorry will be the best lorry to send to an urgent request to collect goods from a customer. Pupils must then justify their choice.

This resource could be used in class where pupils work in groups or as an independent learning task.

The activity includes:

  • teacher notes
  • presentation
  • student activity sheet
  • suggested solutions

Further education resources that link the world of logistics to suitable lessons and subjects in school can be found on the Generation Logistics Education Hub.
