Industrial design and the community

In this book the words 'industrial design' are taken as applying to the activity of designing foods which will be mass produced and sold on the mass market. The aim is to make the words describe a characteristic set of conditions - related to society and methods of production - rather than to any particular type of product. Thus the book is not directly about hand-made furniture, but it is about machine-made furniture; it is not about racing cars, it is about the Mini. This book discusses industrial design and the community in the contemporary world, and here mass production for a mass market is the key element.
