Mathematics: key stages 1, 2 and 3 - third year, 1991-92
This report covers a year in which earlier progress made by schools in implementing mathematics in the National Curriculum was consolidated and, to some extent, taken further. It confirms the important point made in the second annual report that improving the curriculum in order to raise standards is a gradual and long-term process.
The standards achieved were at least satisfactory in about two-thirds of all lessons seen. An improvement on the previous year was noted in Key Stage 3, but a little more unsatisfactory or poor work was seen in Key Stages 1 and 2.;This report should be of interest to teachers of mathematics and their headteachers and inspectors.
