Make a radio receiver
This activity makes use of the theme of World War 2 to explore how FM radio was used by the Allied forces during the war.
Learners will assemble a circuit that acts as an FM radio receiver and then test their circuit to see how well it works.
This is a challenging activity that involves assembling a bought-in kit of parts using soldering irons. Originally written for and aimed at older primary level pupils, this activity may be better suited for secondary students who have had previous experience using the equipment required, and where there is access to a purpose built and designed work area. Activity guidance has been provided with curriculum links for both older primary and secondary age groups.
It is important not to follow suggestions which conflict with current advice from CLEAPSS, SSERC or other recent safety guides. Users are responsible for ensuring that any activity, including practical work, which they carry out is consistent with current regulations related to Health and Safety and that they carry an appropriate risk assessment.
