Vision of the future
Through investigations of the eye and vision, students can learn about a wide range of topics, including homeostasis, the electromagnetic spectrum, behaviour, physiology and cell biology.
This resource provides novel practical ideas that can be carried out in class and instructions on carrying out eye dissections to enable a deeper investigation of the properties of eye tissues and an understanding of related health issues. The dissection activity progresses through identification of the structure and function of the eye to investigating the effect of ultraviolet light on eye tissues and the protective effects of sunglasses. There is also information on common eye defects.
Additional activities linked to the curriculum involve investigation of binocular and colour vision, acuity and field of vision.
There is a teacher's guide with supporting information, quick experiments, extension, literacy and numeracy activities with links to further information.
