Speedometer calibration

This resource from the IET Faraday programme, supported by MEI and Tomorrow's Engineers, provides students with the opportunity to explore the mathematics behind bicycle speedometers, including circle properties and compound measures.

"Bicycle speedometers can only provide accurate readings if they have been calibrated correctly. Percentage error calculations can determine how accurate the speedometer is."

The resource includes a presentation that introduces key concepts and a series of questions for students to explore. The activity overview includes classroom notes, discussion points, extension activity suggestions, answers and details of the curriculum content covered.
