Teaching and Understanding Science
This book was written with the aim of helping teachers to understand the science involved in the activities they lead in class. It is designed as a reference guide for teachers, providing simple background knowledge on key concepts within the National Curriculum science programmes of study, so they may teach science activities with full understanding and confidence. It also provides many activity suggestions for use in class when teaching science at primary level.
The book is organised into chapters relating to the attainment targets:
- Life and living things
- Materials and their properties
- Physical processes
Scientific enquiry is integrated into the suggested activities throughout the book which include ideas for visits, songs, games, books, and displays. Each chapter is divided into key stage one and key stage two and lists programme of study objectives with key science knowledge and suggested ideas for teaching including cross curricular links.
The contents:
- AT 2 Life and living processes
- AT 3 Materials and their properties
- AT 4 Physical processes
