Skill 5.8 What Abstract?
In this activity, produced by Gatsby Science Enhancement Programme, students learn how to write an abstract. These are often seen as the most important part of a scientific paper as they contain the key information in a brief explanation. In the activity, students write an abstract based on a scientific article. Upon completion, they compare abstracts from other students and consider if they contain the essential information. Following completion of the activity, students should be able to: * describe the importance of abstracts * summarise the main findings in papers * describe the different styles of abstracts.
