Using Technology in Science

Produced by the Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS), this case study looks at the theme of harnessing technology. The aim of this case study was to implement new technologies into teaching and learning in order to create greater engagement in science lessons. This could then have a positive effect on retention and achievement at the City of Stoke on Trent Sixth Form College.

To meet the challenge, a series of science lesson observations were undertaken which identified areas where technology could enhance the learning experience. This was followed by a discussion with staff about how to implement the use of technology into their teaching and learning. As a result, staff employed a number of technologies (e.g. voting pads, flip cameras) in their practice.

The case study describes the project at an early stage, it is hoped that by implementing these technologies into teaching and learning student engagement in science lessons will be enhanced.
