Turbines: Environmental Issues

Produced by the Technology Enhancement Programme (TEP), this information sheet looks at how wind turbines can help to reduce emissions and ultimately tackle climate change. The first part of the sheet explains the greenhouse effect and then goes on to show how electricity generation from a variety of renewable sources can help to reduce carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions. A detailed graphic shows the internal workings of a wind turbine. Students can then consider the advantages and disadvantages of wind turbines as a renewable energy source.
