The Science of Social Interaction
The Science of Social Interaction document is a one-page summary of some recent Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) research into the area of human interaction. As our society becomes ever more interconnected, with each person experiencing hundreds of social encounters every day, the way we communicate is very important. This paper looks at the problems that can occur through miscommunication and how our behaviour and signals from the face or voice can have important consequences. The paper also suggests some ways in which technology could develop to become less 'cold' and, by building social signals into machines, could restore the 'human touch' to interactions. ESRC is a part of Research Councils UK (RCUK).
