Real Bugs
This resource pack supports the teaching of living things in the environment, adaptation, habitats and feeding relationships. It also links to cross-curricular work in art and literacy. It can be used in any order, or as stand-alone activities when teaching about invertebrates (minibeasts).
Resource pack - part one contains lessons ideas on different ways of collecting minibeasts using pooters, umbrellas, pitfall traps and tullgren tunnels, detailing ways of making these devices using easily found materials. It contains notes on collecting minibeasts safely and a tally sheet. It also includes an extension activity on how minibeasts eat containing electron micrograph pictures which show close-ups of the mouth parts of various minibeasts.
Resource pack - part two contains detailed notes on how to make models of various minibeasts and silhouette puppets. It also contains three play scripts which cover the areas of biodiversity, food chains and eating mechanisms.
It has been produced by the Biotechnology and Biological Science Research Council (BBSRC), who are a part of Research Councils UK (RCUK).
