Breakaway Maths

Published by Nelson in 1995 Breakaway Maths is designed to provide a resource for children who are having problems with remembering facts and acquiring mathematical skills. It is aimed primarily at children between years two and three but could be used to support any child working within National Curriculum Levels 1-3. The series aims to build confidence and give children a sense of achievement by revisiting areas of mathematics with which they are having problems. Presenting ideas in an age appropriate way it sets out to build self- esteem alongside mathematical fluency and relates mathematics to everyday life by placing the mathematical activities in the context of the storylines of four characters. Follow Rupa, Lisa, Nicky and David as they visit Polygon Castle, Alton Towers and the Warren Study Centre and find lots of mathematics to do along the way.
