Particles in motion

In this classic experiment, from the Royal Society of Chemistry, students produce test tubes of carbon dioxide and then observe diffusion. Carbon dioxide is produced through the reaction between calcium carbonate and acid, the collected carbon dioxide is allowed to diffuse in different situations and tested with limewater.

The resource is set out as teachers' notes followed by the students' page which presents the task to be investigated. A list of apparatus and chemicals needed for the investigation is provided, together with teaching tips.

Curriculum links include: particle model, diffusion
