Episode 604: Preparation for Thermodynamics Topic
Following on from the kinetic theory of gases, this topic from the Institute of Physics, examine the same phenomena in macroscopic terms (energy supplied to materials) and microscopic terms (how the particles are behaving).

Episode 605: the First Law of Thermodynamics
Episode 606: heat engines and thermal efficiency
Episode 607: specific heat capacity
The activities in this topic give students the opportunity to:
1. be able to recall the First Law of Thermodynamics and understand how it relates to the conservation of energy
2. calculate the efficiency of energy transfer and the maximum thermal efficiency
3. perform calculations using specific heat capacity and latent heat.
