Summary

Are you looking for support to maximize the achievement of learners with lower prior attainment up to grade 5 in GCSE Science? As there are many reasons for lower prior attainment, we will explore a variety of strategies to maximize learning and engage pupils, whilst maintaining high expectations in the subject.

  • Identifying key resources to aid development of learners up to grade 5 and building your own resource bank
  • Literacy, maths and practical work- strategies to aid learners up to grade 5  to use these skills across science
  • Behaviour for learning- strategies to engage and keep learners on track
  • Key strategies for adaptive teaching
  • How to recognise and build on prior learning

Outcomes

By the end of the course you will be able to:

  • explore the barriers and challenges at GCSE for learners with lower prior attainment
  • develop strategies and techniques to support learners with lower prior attainment in developing both substantive and disciplinary knowledge at GCSE
  • identify approaches to promote engagement and success of learners with lower prior attainment
  • reflect on next steps, including at curriculum level, to support learners with lower prior attainment
