Materials
A collection of resources to support careers learning through the materials topic.
Plastics Playtime
Produced by The Centre for Industry Education Collaboration (CIEC), these resources help to put curriculum science in a real life context. In these activities, children test and classify plastics before investigating their thermal insulation and shock resistance properties. The children then design, make and test a package for a fragile object, using plastics and other materials.
At what temperature does chocolate melt?
This resource provides a set of videos and a practical investigation aimed at supporting experimental science in the classroom and relating it to real world experiences.
Videos show Brian Cox visiting a chocolate factory and a factory which produces parts for jet engines to find out more about the melting of different materials and how this can be applied to real world contexts.
The Met Office
This website from the Met office shows children how weather forecasts are made and explores the science of weather. Children can put the concepts of States of Matter into a real world context.
Edible experiments
This website from the Royal Society of Chemistry demonstrates how chemistry is used in cooking and food production.
