KS1 Digital literacy
Children in Key Stage One can develop their understanding of computing, using a range of resources to meet the new National Curriculum Objectives for digital literacy, including: use technology safely and respectfully, keeping personal information private, identify where to go for help and support when they have concerns about content or contact on the internet or other online technologies.
Smartie the Penguin
An e-safety story created by Childnet International for 3 to 7 year olds. Join in with Mummy Penguin’s song and follow the adventures of Smartie the Penguin as he learns how to be safe on the internet. The story covers the following 3 themes of pop ups and in app purchasing, inappropriate websites for older students and cyberbullying.

The Adventures of Kara, Winston and the SMART Crew
This e-safety resource includes an animation which has 5 short episodes that highlight the five different SMART rules. In each episode, the main characters are faced with a difficult online situation and call on the help of the SMART crew. The Adventures of Captain Kara, Winston and the SMART Crew can be viewed in one sitting, or as five separate chapters. Watching each one separately, over the course of a half term programme of study, is preferable; to take full advantage of the suggested SMART follow-up activities, to reinforce the learning that has taken place. The full movie lasts for just over eighteen minutes, and each individual chapter lasts around three and a half minutes.
Included in the pack are the movies, lesson ideas, resources and guidance for students, teachers and parents.
Future computers
This activity offers an introduction for young children to evaluate everyday tasks before and after the world of the internet. The world of computers is changing all the time and this video and worksheet is a tool to start a discussion with pupils regarding which everyday things have been moved onto the internet and how this may change the way we live.
