This course is designed for established primary computing leaders who are ready to deepen their expertise. You will learn how to tailor your curriculum to better fit your school's and your pupils' needs, integrate inclusive teaching practices, and optimise the use of your existing resources. Additionally, you will explore strategies to improve computing provision and pedagogy across your school.

What topics are covered?

  1. Making your curriculum work for you. This section explores adapting your current curriculum to better fit your school and your puppils, linked to level 4 of curriculum and teaching, learning, and assessment benchmark of the Computing Quality Framework. You will consider why adapting a scheme of work is beneficial, and the importance of context including cultural capital.
  2. Inclusion, SEND & Adaptive teaching

In this section, you will consider how to ensure your computing curriculum is suitable for all pupils, including those with SEND, those with lower starting points and those who need more challenge. You'll explore different methods of scaffolding in computing, and how these can be used to support different pupils.

03 | Making the most of computing resources

Consider how to optimise your computing resources through effective curriculum planning, unplugged activities, and integrating free resources. You will explore practical tips for teaching computing with limited devices, and how to prioritise technology use to ensure it has the most impact. 

04 | Exemplary computing – going above and beyond

Explore what exemplary computing education looks like and how to achieve it, linked to level 4 of the computing quality framework. Some areas you will consider are pedagogical content knowledge, effective use of adults, and strategies for engaging parents in computing education.
