Effective Consultancy and Coaching FD602 / A25
Summary
This revised course is intended for those who wish to provide school-level support to leaders by offering coaching and consultancy for STEM Learning. It is delivered live online in two sessions, totaling six hours.
The course starts by examining the consultancy cycle, allowing participants to review their consultancy experience and discuss key factors for effective support. Participants will learn a model consultancy cycle and exchange implementation strategies. Participants will review data sources relevant to education consultancy, focusing on the Computing Quality Framework (CQF) or Science Leadership Benchmarks (SLB).
Coaching in the STEM learning context is subsequently introduced, with a focus on defining coaching and distinguishing it from mentoring. Practical activities, models, and relevant skills will be explored in detail. The last module covers handling difficult situations and collaborating with stakeholders. It helps participants manage resistance, navigate tough conversations, and strategise for lasting results in schools and trusts.

Outcomes
- Develop a coherent, evidence-informed approach to effective educational consultancy by understanding the consultancy cycle, applying practical strategies to maximise impact and avoid common pitfalls, and drawing on key educational research to underpin practice.
- Develop awareness of the range of data sources available to consultants before analysing the CQF / SLB data to identify clear priorities and actions to address specific gaps.
- Understand the value of coaching in education by applying core coaching skills to support professional reflection and development
- Navigate complex professional situations with confidence by responding constructively to resistance, working strategically with senior leaders and governors, applying influence and negotiation to secure sustainable outcomes
