Summary
This engaging CPD session explores the fascinating world of optical illusions and magic as powerful tools to ignite curiosity and creativity in the primary classroom. Teachers will learn how to incorporate these into a wide range of subjects, including History, Maths, Science, PSHE, Art, and more.
Through hands-on activities, educators will explore the science and psychology behind illusions, and discover how these concepts can enhance critical thinking, problem-solving, and student engagement.
The session will provide a wealth of ready-to-use resources and practical ideas, allowing teachers to integrate illusions and magic into their lesson plans. Teachers will also be given time to collaborate and create their own cross-curricular schemes of work, ensuring they leave the session with fresh, inspiring ways to captivate their students’ imaginations and foster interdisciplinary learning.
A large proportion of the illusions demonstrated will be completely brand new as the workshop facilitator, Dr Matt Pritchard, is a leading contemporary illusion designer and magic consultant. His work has been seen on stage in Derren Brown’s shows, in Heston Blumenthal’s Fat Duck restaurant, and Twist Museum, London. Matt also has 18 years of experience working with schools delivering STEM activities.

Outcomes
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
